Scope and Content

Correspondence with J.A. Cable, editor of the Times of East Africa, relating to discussion of the current and political situation in Kenya, with reference to the Conscription [Defence Force] Bill, and arrangements for a meeting between Scott and Cable.

There is correspondence relating to a request that Cable become a special correspondent for the Manchester Guardian on Kenya, which is accepted. Also included is discussion of [Walter Edwin] Owen, clergyman and missionary and previous correspondent for the Manchester Guardian in Kenya, who has been pressurised into relinquishing his role, and a letter which includes a recommendation of Cable by Norman Leys, doctor and Africanist. There is also a request from Cable for a recommendation for a new editor for the Times of East Africa.
