Scope and Content

Correspondence with Herbert Louis Samuel, 1st Viscount Samuel (1870-1963), politician, relating to a request that Lionel Loewe, army officer and code breaker, be considered for employment at the Manchester Guardian, which is declined. Also included is an offer of articles by Samuel from his son, Edwin Samuel, civil servant, from Palestine, which are accepted, and accompanied by related internal memoranda. There is a letter of thanks from Samuel for congratulations from W.P. Crozier [on Samuel gaining the title of viscount].

Also included is a copy letter to Edwin Samuel, relating to a request that he act as occasional correspondent for the paper in Palestine, with details of the requirements of the role.
