Scope and Content

Correspondence with Mark Everard Pepys, 6th Earl of Cottenham (1903-1943), racing driver, relating to discussion of the response to a talk on motoring given by Cottenham and broadcast by the BBC, with particular reference to road safety and average speed. Also included is discussion of an article on Cottenham's advice on average speed in the Manchester Guardian, to which Cottenham takes exception. There is discussion of the publication of a letter of response by Cottenham, of motoring and driving knowledge in the general population, and accompanying internal memoranda discussing the subject.

GDN/A/C84/6 is a memorandum sent by Cottenham to the Sunday Graphic with information on the Order of the Road.
