Scope and Content

Correspondence with Archibald Henry Sayce (1845-1933), orientalist and philologist, relating to a request by Scott that Sayce write an article on the discovery of tablets with early Phoenician inscriptions in Jebel and Beyrout [Beirut] for publication in the Manchester Guardian, which is granted, with discussion of the tablets' significance, and a request for a photograph to accompany the article. Also included is an excerpt of a letter from Sayce to Lady [Mary] Boyd Dawkins discussing the discovery of the tablets.
