Scope and Content

Correspondence with Edgar J. Wrigley, journalist, relating to [the employment of Wrigley at the Manchester Guardian]. There is a letter of recommendation [Neville] Cardus, writer on critic and music critic. There is a request by Wrigley for a recommendation from Scott, if required, in support of an application for position of secretary of the Liverpool University Extension Board, which is granted.

There is also a request by Wrigley for permission to move to Whaley Bridge, with discussion of the distance reporters are required to live from the office of the paper, and a request to be considered for the position of [deputy chief reporter], which is acknowledged, with discussion of Wrigley's qualifications for the role and work for the paper. There is also an internal memorandum on Wrigley's retirement in 1957.
