Scope and Content

Correspondence between Constantin Skirmunt (1866-1949), politician and diplomat, and E.T. Scott, relating to complaints by Skirmunt regarding articles on Poland published in the Manchester Guardian, and suggesting that they show a bias against the country, which is refuted by E.T. Scott. Also included is reference to the request by Skirmunt that the Manchester Guardian employ a correspondent in Warsaw, which was declined, with the explanation that reporters are sent to Poland whenever required. There is discussion of arrangements for a meeting between Skirmunt and E.T. Scott.

There is an internal memorandum on a meeting between Hefan Litauer, who, as London editor of the Polish Telegraph Agency, has undertaken to supply the paper with information on important events in Poland, accompanied by a report of an election for the Upper Silesia diet from the Polish Telegraph Agency.

GDN/A/S60/9 are articles entitled 'Spies Invited Over Frontier; German-Polish Quarrel', 'Emigres in the Ukraine; Reported Agreement to Cede Towns to Poland', 'Polish Jews Turn to Communiam; Joining the Second International' and 'Ukrainians on Trial, Alleged Terrorism, Minorities Treaty's Failure' in the Manchester Guardian, 1930.
