Also included is a recommendation by Elton of a book by B[ernard] Pares, historian, entitled Day by Day with the Russian Army, and discussion of the current political situation in Britain, and a potential change in prime minister. There is a request for the recommendation of a successor as correspondent on the University of Liverpool, [following Elton's retirement].

There is also discussion of [Charles Edward] Montague, journalist and novelist, relating to his military service [during the First World War], and injuries sustained by Montague [in a bomb training accident]. There is correspondence with E.T. Scott relating to requests for information and assistance for a memoir on Montague by Elton, including discussion of Montague's manner and character, a visit by Montague to Ireland, with reference to [Charles Stewart] Parnell, politician and the Irish election, to the assistance provided by Madeline Montague,[magistrate, and daughter of C.P. Scott] and to Montague's anxiety for E.T. Scott during [his capture in the First World War]. There is correspondence relating to the return of letters written by Montague, which were provided by Scott for use in the memoir, following its completion.
