Scope and Content

Correspondence with L.A. Fanous, senator, relating to discussion of the publication of an article by Fanous on Egyptian nationalism in the Manchester Guardian, with praise for the coverage of Egypt in the paper, and discussion of nationalism. Also included are letters of introduction for Fanous from Arthur L. Smith, historian, and Hope W. Hogg, professor of Semitic language and literature.

There is correspondence relating to discussion of, and arrangements for Fanous to act as a correspondent for the Manchester Guardian in Constantinople for a short period of time, with discussion of the length, form and content of articles, and proposed payment. Also included is a further offer by Fanous to act as a correspondent in Constantinople, with reference to an upcoming congress of the Committee of Union and Progress at Salonica, which is declined.

There is a request by Fanous for a testimonial on his work in journalism, which is provided. Also included is correspondence on the offer of an article on the Egyptian perspective on current events in Sudan, which is refused.
