Scope and Content

Correspondence between John S. Turner, teacher, and W.P. Crozier, relating to a request by Turner to be considered for employment at the Manchester Guardian, which is declined, owing to a lack of vacancies. Also included is a letter of recommendation from E.H. Partidge, headmaster of Giggleswick School.

There is a request from Crozier for Turner's qualifications and testimonials, and an offer of a temporary period of employment at the paper, which is accepted, with reference to term of employment, and accompanied by related internal memoranda. Also included are Turner's qualifications, and testimonials from [Clive Staples] Lewis, writer and scholar, E.H. Partidge, headmaster of Giggleswick School, and Adam Fox, clergyman and scholar. There is discussion of the end of Turner's employment at the paper, and a letter of introduction for Turner to Douglas Miller [High Master of Manchester Grammar School?].
