Scope and Content

Correspondence between Piero Sraffa (1898-1983), economist, and John Maynard Keynes, economist, relating to letters of complaint received by Sraffa's father, [Angelo Sraffa, professor of law], from [Benito] Mussolini, prime minister of Italy, following an article by Sraffa entitled 'Italian Banking Today', which appeared in Manchester Guardian [Commercial] supplement on reconstruction in Europe. There is a request by Keynes for support and publicity from the Manchester Guardian, should it be required, which is granted, although a request to see the correspondence between Mussolini and [Angelo Sraffa] is made. There is also correspondence on the subject between Angelo Crespi, journalist, and Scott.

There is also an apology from Scott for a mistake made [in wrongly attributing a letter to the editor entitled 'The Methods of Fascism' published in the Manchester Guardian to Sraffa], and assurances of setting right the mistake, which is acknowledged, with the information that details of Sraffa's legal position have been sent to Kingsley Martin, political journalist and journal editor.
