Scope and Content

Correspondence with O. Raymond Drey, journalist, art and drama critic, relating to discussion of Drey's employment as a dramatic critic for the Manchester Guardian, on an occasional basis. There is correspondence relating to requests by Drey to be considered for work as a book reviewer, for full time employment as a dramatic critic, and for employment in the London office of the Manchester Guardian, which are refused. Also included are internal memoranda discussing the subject, and reference to Drey's work as a freelance journalist in London.

There is correspondence relating to a request by Drey for a letter of introduction from Scott to J.A. Spender, editor, at the Westminster Gazette, which is provided. There is also a proposal by Drey of articles on cities in France in which fighting is not taking place, during [the First World War], for potential publication in the Manchester Guardian, which are refused.
