Scope and Content

Correspondence with Anthony J. Mundella, journalist, relating to a request by Mundella for an introduction to Scott from R.A. Armstrong, with discussion of Mundella's desire to be a political journalist and to work for the Manchester Guardian. Also included is a letter of introduction and recommendation for Mundella from Armstrong.

There is a complaint by Scott relating to a [parliamentary] sketch by Mundella for the Manchester Guardian, as it is deemed to be unsuitable for publication. Also included is discussion of a proposal that Mundella should be employed at the Manchester office of the paper during the parliamentary recess, and Mundella's preference for remaining in London. There is a statement entitled 'The Standard Rate of Wages in the Parliamentary Gallery', outlining the differences in his terms of employment to other parliamentary journalists. There is also correspondence relating thanks from Scott for information provided on [education] schemes, and reference to a potential attempt to secure public funding for church schools.
