Also included is discussion of Hewart's decision to resign as editor of the Morning Leader, and praise by Scott of his editorship, and explanation [of an inability to employ Hewart] due to lack of vacancies on the staff of the Manchester Guardian.
There is discussion of articles by Hewart for publication in the Manchester Guardian on the Salford Hundred Court, on Lancashire and the circuit [court] system, with reference to a new commission [on the law's delay], and on an unknown subject. There is a request to reprint articles by Hewart published in the Manchester Guardian in a proposed collection of essays by Hewart, which is granted, and a request by Hewart for confirmation of the date of an old Mancunian dinner in London, at which Scott gave a speech, which is provided. There is also a request by Scott for a signature from Hewart on an appeal for action by local authorities to combat the increase in litter, which is granted.
