Scope and Content

Correspondence with Sir Stanley Unwin (1884-1968), publisher, relating to an offer of collaboration on a series of articles and a book on the government of the Saar Valley, which is declined. Also included is a request for information on copyright difficulties encountered by the Manchester Guardian in the publication of articles by Arthur Ransome, journalist and writer, on letters by Alexandra Feodorovna, Empress of Russia, entitled 'Letters of the Tsaritsa', which is provided. There is discussion of an inability by Unwin to reach an agreement for the publication of the letters in Britain, their proposed publication in America, and copies of letters to solicitors, and to Clive Wigram, army officer, on the subject.

There is also correspondence with Emma Cobden Unwin [aunt of Unwin] relating to a request for support and an appeal for subscriptions for a centre for peace and international co-operation to be founded at Dunford House as a memorial to Richard Cobden, manufacturer and politician, [father of Emma Cobden Unwin].
