Scope and Content

Correspondence between Harold A. Atkins, journalist and W.P. Crozier, relating to repeated enquires as to possible employment at the Manchester Guardian, with information on Atkins' experience and recent studies. There are letters and internal memoranda relating to a meeting with Atkins, and discussion of Atkins' employment and salary as a sub-editor.

Also included are letters and internal memoranda discussing Atkins' suggestions of potential subjects for articles, including modern and chemical warfare, the Beveridge Report and post war resettlement, English law reform, reform of the prison system, and population growth in India. There is discussion of the potential production of the Manchester Guardian in London.

There is an internal memorandum discussing Atkins' request to be considered for a position at the Manchester Guardian in London, and correspondence relating to his resignation in order to take up a post at The Evening News.

Also included are letter of thanks and of recommendation for Atkins from Lewis Richmond, T.S. Adamson, and R. Bowley, The Nottingham Journal.
