Scope and Content

Correspondence with Sir Thomas Basil Clarke (1879-1947), journalist and war correspondent, relating to Clarke's employment as a sub-editor, and as a reporter for the Manchester Guardian. There is a letter of recommendation for Clarke from H. Sidebottom, journalist.

Also included is discussion of Clarke's resignation to take up a post at the [Daily] Mail, and request for a reference for Clarke, with accompanying related internal memoranda. There is also a request to E.T. Scott that Clarke's son Alan be considered for employment at the Manchester Guardian, which is refused.
