Scope and Content

Correspondence with Oliver de Selincourt (1898-1974), philosopher, relating to an offer of potential employment to de Selincourt as a leader writer at the Manchester Guardian, with discussion of arrangements for a potential trial period of work, and the suggestion that de Selincourt might also write some book reviews for the paper, which is accepted. Also included is discussion of de Selincourt's performance during the trial, and a related internal memorandum. There is an expression of thanks from de Selincourt for is experience at the paper, and for payment for the trial period of employment. There is also discussion of the difficulties that Scott is encountering in locating a replacement for [Charles Edward] Montague, journalist and novelist, and the decision not to offer the position to de Selincourt, which is acknowledged. Also included is a request by de Selincourt to stay with Scott whilst travelling through Manchester.
