Scope and Content

Correspondence between Lionel C. Robbins, economist, C.P. Scott and E.T. Scott relating to discussion of an offer of a trial period of employment as a leader writer for Robbins at the Manchester Guardian, with the suggestion that he provide details of his previous experience, and specimens of work, which is declined, with regret, owing to Robbins' previous work commitments. Also included are internal memoranda and correspondence relating to discussion of Robbins and his current post at the London School of Economics, of the potential trial, and of staffing arrangements and vacancies at the paper. There are letter of recommendation for Robbins from [unknown] and Oscar R. Hobson, financial journalist.

Also included is correspondence between Robbins and E.T. Scott on a paper by Robbins on the economics of free trade, on which E.T. Scott has provided comments. Also included is discussion of the intricacies of the debate on free trade, and reference to the propaganda of the protectionists.
