Scope and Content

Correspondence with Philip Gee, relating to discussion of letters to the editor on current affairs in coal mining by Gee published in the Manchester Guardian, in his role as [head of public relations] for the Mining Association. There is also correspondence relating to a complaint by Gee about an article which appeared in the Manchester Guardian, and contained an enquiry as to whether Gee's letter and statements were always made as spokesman of the Mining Association, or whether some were made as a private individual. Also included are internal memoranda discussing the subject. There is a letter relating to the complaint by Gee from Tarry, Sherlock and King, [solicitors], and discussion of the letter to the editor by Gee published as a response to the enquiry as to his position as spokesman, also published in the Manchester Guardian.
