Scope and Content

Correspondence between A.E. Holdsworth, journalist and editor, and W.P. Crozier, relating to an application by Holdsworth for employment at the Manchester Guardian, with details of previous experience and interests. There is a request by Crozier to see specimens of Holdsworth's work, and discussion of a possible trial for Holdsworth at the paper, which does not take place, as Holdsworth is offered and accepts a trial at the Financial News. Also included are internal memoranda discussing a potential for occasional trial work for Holdsworth in the London office of the Manchester Guardian.

There is correspondence relating to a further request by Holdsworth to be considered for employment at the Manchester Guardian, with details of journalistic experience gained, which is declined. There is also correspondence relating to Holdsworth's application for a vacant post as a parliamentary reporter at the Manchester Guardian, which is unsuccessful. Also included is an internal memorandum discussing Holdsworth's application.
