Scope and Content

Correspondence with Basil Murray, journalist, relating to Murray's decision not to accept an unpaid position at the Manchester Guardian, and his current work at the Land and Nation League.

Also included is correspondence between Murray and E.T. Scott, relating to further requests by Murray for employment at the Manchester Guardian, which are declined, owing to a lack of vacancies. There is a copy of Murray's resume, and discussion of the provision of specimens of his work, accompanied by a related internal memorandum. There is reference to Murray's motivations for leaving his employment at the Daily Express. Also included is a letter of recommendation for Murray from Robert Dell, journalist, and a letter to E.T. Scott from [John Lawrence] Hammond, historian and journalist, relating to Hammond's opinion of Murray.
