Scope and Content

Correspondence between Horace S. Platts, journalist, and W.P. Crozier, relating to an application by Platts for employment at the Manchester Guardian, with details of previous experience and the provision of a specimen of his work, which is declined, owing to a lack of current vacancies. Also included is an internal memorandum discussing Platts' employment in the telephone room of the Manchester Guardian, with reference to his exemption from war service as a conscientious objector. There are also thanks from Platts for an increase in his salary, and a request to be considered for occasional writing and reviewing work for the paper. There is a note of Platts' resignation in December 1942.

GDN/A/P42/1 is a proof of an article by Platts entitled 'When The Brick Elephant Goes…A Picture of Germany Today' in the Bury Times, 1937.
