Scope and Content

Correspondence with Frank Appleby, journalist, relating to enquiries as to potential employment as a writer for the Manchester Guardian. Also included is a letter of recommendation for Appleby from A[lexander] M[ackenzie] Drysdale, journalist and editor.

There is a letter relating to corrections of an article by Appleby on the creation of the Provisional Government of Ireland and withdrawal of British troops from Ireland following the [Anglo-Irish Treaty], and a letter of reference for Appleby as special correspondent for Manchester Guardian in Northern Ireland.

Also included is correspondence between Appleby and A.P. Wadsworth relating to Appleby's notice of intention to retire, and of thanks for condolences expressed [on the death of his wife].
