Scope and Content

Correspondence with John William Robertson Scott (1866-1962), journalist, relating to the provision of an article on agriculture by Robertson Scott for publication in the Manchester Guardian, with a request to see a proof of the article, should any editing be required. Also included is discussion of a proposal by Robertson Scott for a column on agriculture for the paper, with discussion of the limitations of space, and the provision of specimens of similar notes produced for other publications by Robertson Scott, with details of his previous experience.

There is a request by Robertson Scott to write a review for the Manchester Guardian of An Introduction to Japanese History by [Katsuro Hara], with discussion of the book. Also included is correspondence relating to an offer by Robertson Scott of occasional articles from a visit to Japan, and of additional articles from his wife, [Elspet] Robertson Scott, writer, for the women's pages of the paper, both of which are accepted, with discussion of the situation in Japan and China, and a further request for articles on the [Panama-Pacific International Exposition] in San Francisco.

There is a request for articles from Robertson Scott on the Liberal land scheme, and from a tour in South Africa, should Robertson Scott be in attendance, which are declined, owing to other work commitments, with discussion of the land scheme, and a request for a signed photograph of Scott.

Also included is correspondence between Robertson Scott and E.T. Scott, relating to discussion and praise of a memoir on C.P. Scott, and of difficulties encountered by Scott and Robertson Scott in relation to eyesight, and the treatment procured. There is also an expression by Robertson Scott of a desire to meet E.T. Scott, and discuss the sub-editing of the paper.
