Scope and Content

Correspondence with Charles Alfred Cripps, first Baron Parmoor (1852-1941), lawyer and politician, relating to thanks for an advance copy of a speech by Parmoor [on the foreign policy of the Labour party], with discussion of co-operation to ensure peace, and of [Ramsay] MacDonald, and his work as foreign [secretary].

Also included is discussion of the provision of a letter by John Fischer Williams, international lawyer, and discussion of whether an agreement between Britain, America and France, whilst binding in terms of honour and good faith, cannot be enforced by international law [relating to the payment of reparations under the Dawes plan?]. There is a request for the publication of a letter to the editor by Parmoor in the Manchester Guardian on a speech given by Austen Chamberlain at the Assembly of the League of Nations, which is declined, owing to the receipt by the paper of a similar letter from [Ramsay MacDonald, prime minister].

GDN/A/P10/6 is an obituary notice for Parmoor in the [Manchester Guardian], 1941.
