Scope and Content

Correspondence with Charles H. Gray, relating to a request by Gray to be considered for potential employment as a correspondent for the Manchester Guardian in Rome, with details of Gray's previous experience, which is declined. Also included are related internal memoranda, and a request to see samples of Gray's work. There are requests by Scott for information on Gray to [Alexander Dunlop] Lindsay, educationist, and A.P. Ryan, press officer at the Empire Marketing Board, which is provided. There are letters of recommendation for Gray from [Henry W.] Nevinson, journalist, and B.N. Langdon Davies, writer and publisher.

Also included is correspondence relating to an offer by Gray of articles on Macedonia for publication in the Manchester Guardian following a recent visit there, which are declined.
