Scope and Content

Correspondence with Noel Edward Noel-Buxton, first Baron Noel-Buxton (1869-1948), politician, relating to a request by Buxton for support for the Balkan War Relief Fund, with discussion of the fund, and reference to a visit by Buxton to Bulgaria. There is correspondence relating to discussion of an article from Buxton on the fund, and on the need for relief work in Macedonia and Thrace, for publication in the Manchester Guardian to accompany an appeal by the Manchester Committee of the Balkan War Relief Fund. Also included are internal memoranda discussing the subject.

There is correspondence relating to a letter to the editor from Buxton on the payment of reparations by Bulgaria, published in the Manchester Guardian. Also included is discussion of an article on the mistreatment of horses which are exported from England for slaughter in France, published in the Manchester Guardian.
