Scope and Content

Correspondence with John Galsworthy (1867-1933), novelist and playwright, relating to a request by Scott for an [uknown] article from Galsworthy, which is refused. Also included is correspondence relating to the publication of a letter by Galsworthy on the problems of unemployment for coal miners in the Manchester Guardian, accompanied by related internal memoranda, which makes reference to Galsworthy's request that his fee for the article be transferred to the Manchester Miners relief fund.

There are requests from Scott that Galsworthy write an article on the encroachment of the Entertainment Tax (1929) on educational activities for the Manchester Guardian, and for a signature from Galsworthy on an appeal for action by local authorities to combat the increase in litter.

There is correspondence with H.O. Marrot, relating to a request from Elkin Mathews and Marrot Limited for confirmation of any articles and contributions by Galsworthy to the Manchester Guardian for the Bibliography of the Works of John Galsworthy, accompanied by related internal memoranda.
