Scope and Content

Correspondence with Sir James O'Connor (1872-1931), judge, relating to an invitation to Scott to visit O'Connor in Ireland, with discussion of the terms of home rule for Ireland, and the partition of the country, with reference to financial control, defence and representation at the League of Nations. Also included is reference to the influence of the Manchester Guardian, and O'Connor's predictions for the terms of the final settlement. There is discussion of a meeting between Scott and [David] Lloyd George, prime minister, and his approach to the negotiations for Irish home rule.

Also included is correspondence relating to a request by O'Connor for the Manchester Guardian to review his book, History of Ireland 1798-1924, which is granted, with discussion of potential reviewers, and the reception of the book, and of O'Connor, in Ireland.
