Scope and Content

Correspondence with Henry C. Haskell, journalist and writer, relating to arrangements for a two month period of employment for Haskell at the Manchester Guardian and Manchester Evening News, as part of a programme [for the Walter Hines Page Anglo-American Journalistic Fellowship Scheme], with details of proposed work, and accompanied by related internal memoranda. Also included is correspondence relating to thanks and appreciation from Haskell for his placement at the Manchester Guardian, and a letter of condolence to E.T. Scott on the death of Scott, with discussion of the memorial leader for Scott in the Manchester Guardian, Haskell's work at the paper, and his current employment at The Kansas City Star.

There is correspondence with Sir Campbell Stuart, newspaper manager, and Alfred E. Johns, Committee of British Newspaper Fellowships in memory of Walter Hines Page, relating to a request that Scott accommodate Haskell for two months of work, with discussion of the fellowship scheme, and a letter of recommendation for Haskell from Vilhjalmur Stefanson, anthropologist and explorer.
