Scope and Content

Correspondence with Arthur Robert Reade, writer and lecturer in English, relating to a request that Reade act as a correspondent for the Manchester Guardian in Finland, with discussion of the requirements of the role, which is accepted. Also included is a letter of recommendation for Reade from John Dover Wilson, professor of English.

There is discussion of relations between Finland and Russia, and the introduction by Russia of a new legislative programme for Finland, with reference to a statement on the subject by Reade produced for the foreign office, and to a potential article by Reade for publication in the paper.

There is a request by Reade for the Manchester Guardian to review his book, Finland and the Finns, which is granted. There is a further request by Reade to act as a reviewer for the Manchester Guardian on books on Finland and Scandinavia, which is granted, with the suggestion that Reade might also write occasional notes on politics in Finland for the paper. Also included is a curriculum vitae for Reade. There is an offer by Reade to send articles to the paper whilst employed in Florence, which is declined.
