Correspondence with Harold Spender, journalist and politician, relating to a trial period of employment for Spender at the Manchester Guardian, and notice of intention to take up a position at the Daily News following the year's employment at the paper, with discussion of terms of employment, payment for night work, and suggestions by Spender for potential successors.

There is discussion of the Liberal party, the political situation, and Spender's failed attempt to gain election as a member of parliament in Bath. There is an offer of an article by Spender [on the political situation following the general election, 1923], with reference to the Liberal and Labour parties. Also included is internal correspondence relating to discussion of a feature story by Spender, published in the New York World, which makes reference to an [unknown] important story featuring David Lloyd George, prime minister and [Thomas Woodrow?] Wilson, [president].

Also included is correspondence relating to the provision of a book by Spender, Men and Mansions, with discussion of the book.
