Scope and Content

Correspondence with John Cuming Walters, (1863-1933), journalist and editor, relating to the provision of an [unknown] review of a book in the Manchester Guardian to Walters. Also included is a letter from Frederick W. Tattersall, cotton trade and financial journalist, to Walters, relating to the termination of Tattersall's weekly trade article for the Manchester City News. There is a request by E.T. Scott for information Tattersall's dismissal, and reference to his work for the Manchester Guardian.

There is also correspondence relating to the provision of a letter entrusted to Walters from Sir Thomas Henry Hall Caine, novelist, on his relations with [Dante Gabriel] Rossetti, painter and poet, which is intended for publication after Hall Caine's death. Also included is discussion of the contents of the letter, and the decision by E.T. Scott not to publish it, owing to an inability to verify the information it contains. Also included is an internal memorandum on the discontinuation of the Manchester City News, with discussion of the publication of notices on the activities of the City News Fellowship, and a new address for the Manchester City News.
