Scope and Content

Correspondence with Tarini Prasad Sinha, political scientist, relating to arrangements for a meeting between Sinha and Scott, and the provision of a tour of the offices of the Manchester Guardian. Also included is a letter of recommendation for Sinha from [Charles Freer] Andrews, author and campaigner for Indian independence. There is discussion of a period of employment of Sinha by the paper, as an assistant on the Manchester Guardian Weekly, and in the sub-editors department, which ends owing to the lack of a permanent vacancy. There is a letter of reference for Sinha from Scott. Also included is a booklet on the Indian Information Centre, and correspondence between [Saiyid] Ameer Ali, judge and Muslim leader in India and Scott, relating to an enquiry regarding a request by Sinha that Ali become president of the Indian Information Centre, of which Scott is a vice-president.

There are requests by Sinha for letters of support and recommendation for applications for employment at the secretariat of the League of Nations, which are provided, with discussion of Sinha's move to Geneva in order to attempt to gain employment, and of the potential vacancies. Also included is discussion of the discussion of political situation in India, and a request from Sinha for further employment at the Manchester Guardian, with reference to his desire to make a contribution to the negotiations between Britain and India at the [third] round table conference, which is declined.
