Scope and Content

Correspondence with Charles Sutherland Elton (1900-1991), animal ecologist, relating to a request by Scott for an article on the cause of fluctuation of the red and grey squirrel populations in Britain for publication in the Manchester Guardian. There is discussion and acceptance of Elton's suggestion that the article is written by a colleague, A.D. Middleton, who has gathered more information on the subject.

Also included is a copy letter from Scott to Rose [Elton], relating to the provision of an article on the congress of ecology, which may be of interest to Elton as the first mention of the congress in the general press.

GDN/A/E15/1 is a newspaper cutting entitled 'Kitts Quarries', which refers to the marriage of Elton to Rose Montague, daughter of the late C.E. Montague, [granddaughter of C.P. Scott], in an unknown publication
