Scope and Content

Correspondence with Caroline Alice Lejeune (1897-1973), film critic, relating to discussion of the development of film criticism in the press, an explanation of the importance and use of film trade shows, and the need for notices of them for the Manchester Guardian, with reference to a suggested format for articles, and the proposal by Lejeune that she carry out this work for the paper. There is reference to permission given by Scott for Lejeune to contribute to a pamphlet on British war films.

Also included is correspondence relating to a required change in Lejeune's work for the paper, in light of her pregnancy, and discussion of potential arrangements for the desired continuation of her work. There is also discussion of an offer of employment made by [James Louis] Garvin, journalist and newspaper editor, of a weekly film column for The Observer, which Scott recommends is accepted. There is also correspondence relating to discussion of the Lejeune's continued use of the initials C.A.L. in a professional capacity.

There is discussion and provision of letters of introduction by Scott for Lejeune to A.H. Watson and [James Louis] Garvin.
