Scope and Content

Correspondence with Sir George Paish (1867-1957), financial journalist and economist, relating to a request by Scott that Paish write an article for the Manchester Guardian on the current financial situation, and the need for an international loan.

Also included is a request that Paish draft a statement on his proposal for an economic approach to temperance, from the perspective of national expenditure and savings, which is accepted. Also included is correspondence between May Lennard, of the Manchester and Salford Temperance Council, and Scott, on the subject of Paish's proposal, and support for the drafting of a memorial on the subject from Philip Snowden, politician, and Sir Josiah Stamp, economist and banker. There is a request by Paish for Scott's opinion on the statement produced, and discussion of its length and purpose.

There is a request by Paish for permission to add Scott's signature to a letter prepared on the bankers' resolution [in favour of Empire free trade], and provision of a copy of a book by Paish, entitled The Way to Recovery.
