Scope and Content

Correspondence with Hermann Fromm, relating to a complaint about articles by [Frederick Augustus Voigt, journalist and author] in the Manchester Guardian, with reference to coverage of the behaviour of German troops sent to keep order in Saxony and Thuringia, and of Erich Zeigner, prime minister of Germany, with a response in which Scott suggests that he would be happy to consider any evidence to the contrary provided by Fromm.

Also included is correspondence between Voigt and Scott, relating to Fromm's employment in a business capacity for the Manchester Guardian in Germany, and difficulties and issues caused by his approach to business and to the sale of advertisement space in the paper. There is an agreement that Fromm can no longer be employed in any position of responsibility, and Voigt suggests that his employment be terminated, following a further embarrassment caused by Fromm by an approach to the German and Prussian governments in relation to the sale of advertising.

There is discussion of the impact upon circulation of the Manchester Guardian weekly paper in Germany, and also of a special cultural supplement due to be produced by the Manchester Guardian.

GDN/A/F36/1 is written in German, with a translation provided.
