There is discussion of Ellam's occasional work as a reviewer for the Manchester Guardian, and requests for letters of recommendation for Ellam for employment as a lecturer at the University of Liverpool, and as a travelling organiser for the Liberal party, which are supplied. Copies of the letters of recommendation to Sir [Richard Durning] Holt and Burton W Ellis of the Liberal party are included.
There is correspondence relating to Ellam's work as a lecturer on oriental philosophy, Buddhism, Hinduism and comparative religion, with reference to a Lantern Lecture series, and accompanied by an advertisement leaflet and a list of lecture receipts and expenses for 1927-1928. There is a request for an advancement of payment for an article in order to finance slides for the lectures, and also discussion of a request by Ellam for a loan of £25, which is granted.
There is discussion of Ellam's difficulty in finding work, repayment of the loan made to him by the Manchester Guardian, and also condolences offered and accepted on the death of C.E. Montague, journalist and novelist.
