Scope and Content

Correspondence with Stephen Wilson Bonarjee (1912-2003), radio editor and journalist, relating to discussion of Bonarjee's employment as a sub-editor at the Manchester Guardian, with details of his request to be considered for employment, previous work experience and the salary offered for the post.

There is correspondence relating to Bonarjee's intention to volunteer for war time service, with discussion of making a potential application from India, Bonarjee's acceptance into an Officer cadet training unit, and a testimonial for Bonarjee provided by Crozier. There is reference to Bonarjee's initial experiences of the army.

Also included is discussion of Bonarjee's work in services education at the Northern Command Formation College, his demobilisation from the army, and intention of returning to work at the Manchester Guardian. There is then correspondence discussing an offer of employment for Bonarjee as Talks Producer for the Forces Educational Broadcast Service at the BBC, which he has accepted. There are letters of good wishes for the new position from Wadsworth and N[orman] J[ames] N[eilson] D[ixon].

GDN/A/B62/12 is a newspaper cutting of an article on a speech given by the Rev. Pitt Bonarjee, with a reference to his son, [Stephen Bonarjee] in the Northampton Daily Chronicle.
