Scope and Content

Correspondence with William Haslam Mills (1873-1930), journalist and author, relating to Haslam Mills' letter of resignation, in order to take up the post on the parliamentary staff of the Daily Telegraph. Also included is discussion of changes in work to be carried out by Haslam Mills [following his return to employment at the Manchester Guardian]. There is a letter of thanks for an [unknown] letter from Scott, including praise of the Manchester Guardian.

There is also a letter from Sir Robert L. Morant, civil servant, asking for Scott's permission to recruit Haslam Mills for the post of [director of Public Information] at the Ministry of Health, which is granted. There is a letter of thanks from Haslam Mills for the opportunity to contribute to the centenary [supplement] of the Manchester Guardian, and discussion of a proposal to publish a book on the history of the paper.
