Scope and Content

Correspondence with Sir Arthur Henry Crosfield, 1st Baronet (1865 - 1938), politician, relating to discussion of the [Greco-Turkish War] and a letter on the subject written by Crosfield which is published in the Manchester Guardian. Also included is discussion of Crosfield's friendship with [Eleftherios Kyriakou] Venizelos, statesman and prime minister, and Venizelos' response to the situation in Greece. There is correspondence relating to an invitation for E.T. Scott to stay with Crosfield and to meet Venizelos. There is also reference to a further article by Crosfield on the near east, published in the Manchester Guardian, and to the death of a mutual friend of Scott and Crosfield, Lord [James] Bryce, [Viscount Bryce], historian and politician.

There is correspondence relating to support for the campaign for enosis in Cyprus, with requests from Crosfield for the publication of articles in the Manchester Guardian, with reference to a delegation from Cyprus to Britain to discuss the desired union between Greece and Cyprus. There is a request from Crosfield that Scott meet with Zeno Rossides, a member of the Cypriot delegation, and discussion of the publication of a memorandum [copy included] by Rossides in the Manchester Guardian, accompanied by internal memoranda discussing the subject. Also included are letters of thanks from Archbishop Kyrillos III, President National Council of Cyprus, and P. Counelourioti, Chairman, Central Committee of Cyprus for articles published in the Manchester Guardian in support of enosis for Cyprus.

There is correspondence relating to discussion of articles on free trade by Crosfield in the Warrington Examiner, and of a letter to the editor by Crosfield on the payment of war debt by Britain and dominions to America, which is rejected.
