Scope and Content

Correspondence between David Brownlie and E.T. Scott, relating to Brownlie's employment as the editor of the weekly engineering column of the Manchester Guardian, with reference to the contribution, procurement and editing of articles. There is accompanying internal memoranda relating to discussion of terms of employment and salary, and the total number of articles Brownlie is required to produce per year. Also included is a list of the contributors to the engineering column.

There is correspondence relating to the termination of Brownlie's employment, owing to the decision to employ an engineer as part of the Manchester Guardian's permanent staff, with discussion of Brownlie's additional contributions to the Manchester Guardian Commercial.
