Scope and Content

Correspondence with Bertrand Arthur William Russell, third Earl Russell (1872-1970), philosopher, journalist, and political campaigner, relating to a request by Scott for articles by Russell for the Manchester Guardian on events in the recent history of China, and on the Boxer Indemnity, with discussion of the current situation in China, and reference to the difficulties in the approach to China which will come under discussion at the Washington [disarmament] conference. Also included is discussion of potential length and payment for the articles.

Also included is discussion of the figures for the production of raw cotton in America and India referred to in Russell's book The Problem of China, which Scott suggests contain an error, and a request by E.T. Scott for an article from Russell for the Saturday edition of the paper, with an outline of the requirements.
