Scope and Content

Correspondence with Jakob Altmaier (1889-1963), journalist and politician, relating to Altmaier's letter of resignation, with appreciation of the opportunity to work for the Manchester Guardian and request to continue as a potential occasional contributor, an offer which is accepted.

Also included is correspondence with F[rederick] A[ugustus] Voigt, journalist and author, relating to the request to employ Altmaier as an assistant, outlining his credentials and advantages in terms of political connections. There is also discussion of the work of a journalist in Germany, the current German political climate and the situation in Upper Silesia. Scott agrees to the employment of Altmaier, and comments favourably on an article by Altmaier on the [First World] War.
