Scope and Content

Correspondence between A. Wyn Williams, manager of the Manchester Guardian in New York, and E.T. Scott, relating to a request for information on the procedure for the use of quotations from the Manchester Guardian, which is clarified. Also included is discussion of arrangements for Wyn Williams to represent the paper in the receipt of a medal of honor awarded to the Manchester Guardian by the School of Journalism at the University of Missouri. There is reference to the provision of remarks to be used for the occasion by E.T. Scott, and of observations on the journey provided by Wyn Williams. There is correspondence on the subject with Frank L. Martin, journalist, and dean of the School of Journalism, and a related internal memorandum.

Also included is a request by a subscriber of the Manchester Guardian Weekly in America for a copy of an article published in the Political Quarterly by C.P. Scott on the purpose of a newspaper, which is provided. There is discussion of the privately expressed views of [Albert S.] Burleson, congressman and postmaster general, on Britain, economics and trade tariffs.
