Scope and Content

Correspondence with Philip Carr relating to Carr's work as a theatre critic and occasional correspondent for the Manchester Guardian. Also included are related internal memoranda discussing salary, and Carr's request, as a correspondent, to continue to receive a free copy of the Manchester Guardian in Paris.

There is correspondence discussing a suggestion by Carr that he might occasionally send letters on new French books for publication in the Manchester Guardian, which is accepted. There is also correspondence containing a request that Carr conduct an interview [Suzanne] Lenglen, tennis player, who is about to open a Lawn Tennis School at Cannes, for publication in the Manchester Guardian.
