Scope and Content

Correspondence between Saint-Phalle Limited, bankers, E.T. Scott, and Cecil [J.S.] Sprigge, journalist, relating to a proposal by Saint-Phalle Limited that they provide quotations on the American stock market for the Manchester Guardian in exchange for the provision of advertising space on the financial pages of the paper, which is accepted, and accompanied by internal memoranda and correspondence discussing details of the agreement, arrangements, a trial of the service, and the selection of stocks to be included. Also included is a list of the stocks on which information can be provided.

There is a request by Saint-Phalle Limited to discontinue their advertising in paper, but continue to provide an information service, in exchange for publicity for occasional special information and statistics provided, which is accepted, with the proviso of editorial discretion over the publication of items of information, and accompanied by internal memoranda discussing the subject. Also included is a copy of the stock list information provided by Saint-Phalle Limited to the paper.
