Scope and Content

Correspondence with Sir Philip Joseph Hartog (1864-1947), educationist, relating to thanks for good wishes sent by Hartog to Scott, with discussion of Hartog's previous work for the Manchester Guardian, and of Hartog's backing of books by [Charles Edward] Montague, journalist and novelist. Also included is correspondence relating to discussion of a letter to the editor by Hartog on the Simon Report [of the Indian Statutory Commission], published in the Manchester Guardian.

There is discussion of a request by Hartog that the Manchester Guardian review Bridging the gulf; a study of the background of the Indian situation with some suggestions, by an Indian by Sir P.C. Mitter, and an offer to write for the London column of the Manchester Guardian on the first round table conference, which is acknowledged with thanks. Also included are offers by Hartog to write book reviews for the Manchester Guardian.
