Scope and Content

Correspondence with John Lambert, journalist, relating to Lambert's application for employment at the Manchester Guardian as a sub-editor, with details of previous experience, discussion of salary, and accompanied by related internal memoranda. Also included is a letter of thanks from Lambert for an increase in salary, and commendation of his work.

There is correspondence relating to Lambert's resignation from his post owing to sleeplessness, and internal memoranda discussing the subject, and additional work carried out by Lambert until a replacement member of staff can be employed.

Also included is correspondence with K.E. Burnett, journalist, relating to the recommendation of Lambert by Burnett, and discussion of an offer of employment made to Lambert by the Manchester Guardian.
